FIVE PHOTOS. SOMETHING ONLY YOU COULD GIVE.
A Birthday Photo Gift in Five Memories
The best birthday photo is not always the one with the cake. It might be the bus you missed together, a terrible first attempt at baking or a quiet afternoon that still makes you smile. Build your gift around those moments.
Choose a story, not five perfect portraits
- Start with a beginning. Use the earliest photo that feels like your friendship or family story. Add one sentence about what you remember from that day.
- Include an ordinary favourite. A kitchen table, a walk home or the same café every Sunday can say “I know you” more clearly than a formal photo.
- Make room for a laugh. Choose an inside joke that will feel kind to the recipient. A birthday gift should make them feel seen, never embarrassed.
- Show what you appreciate. Pair a photo with something specific they did: turning up, listening, fixing a disaster or making a difficult week lighter.
- End with the next chapter. Use your favourite photo together and a birthday wish about something you hope to share next.
A note that belongs to your friendship
“We took three buses to reach this beach and forgot the towels. I would still choose the exact same day with you. Here’s to another year of plans that go wonderfully wrong.”
Keep each note short enough to enjoy beside the photo. Write the final wish first if that is the part you already know; the other four memories can lead towards it. In Spin a Memory, the fifth capsule always opens last.
